Although similarly structured food delivery apps and websites exist for adult meals, the selection of existing websites for baby/ toddler food delivery are few and far between. The existing baby food and nutrition tracker apps are lacking key features, incredibly non-engaging and only provide directions on how to make the recipes yourself which may serve the stay-at-home mommy or daddy, but what about the working parents?
Mainly 20-45 year old working moms and dads who have a busy schedule and wish to keep their babies as healthy as possible on-the-go.
Nuttri Babe partners with local farms near you to provide meals using the freshest organic and non GMO ingredients that are safe for parents’ little loves to enjoy. This app also allows parents to personalize their children’s meal plans using machine learning based on family size, allergies, and diet preferences. Additionally, Nuttri Babe contains bonus features allowing parents to return to the app to track their children’s preferences in an on-going fashion by reporting which foods they have tried and whether they liked them or not.
I conducted a user survey with 37 potential users in combination with 5interviews to collect both quantitative and qualitative data to validate the need for Nuttri Babe’s service and community interest. The target audience was any individual whom has children or takes care of children under the age of 10 years old.
From the survey results, I found that 83.8% of respondents were female and 54% of users fell between the ages of 18-35 yrs old.
Additionally, we found that 78.9% of survey participants work between 20-40 hrs per week.
We found 42% of participants reported not blending their childrens’ food themselves at home because they either do not have the time or do not know which ingredients to use. This finding backed our original theory of a new type of baby food app being in need on the market. A majority of all participants reported caring for children under the age of 10 years old.
84.2% said they may like to know where thefood they are purchasing is sourced from.
This is Steven. He is a 30 year old first time father and single first time father at that. His wife passed shortly after giving birth to their son Aspen. They live in Portland, OR and Steven is just trying to do the best he can in taking care of his son by himself on an Art Teacher’s salary. He is incredibly lonely and is fighting through his grief through maintaining healthy habits and appreciating the moments of joy with Aspen.
Michelle Figueroa is a 27 year old part time Nanny and full time student, working her way through Nursing school on her own. She works hard in promoting wellness within her community, however, realizes that she herself is not a great cook. To make sure her clients’ children are receiving a balanced and healthy diet, she is lookin for a way to outsource these meals. Having pre-prepared meals delivered would save her an incredible amount of time, allowing her to focus on teaching and playing.
This is Soniya. She is a 38 year old mama of 2 living in New Jersey, IL. She is Married and working long hours as a Director of Marketing. She is often frustrated by the amount of calls she receive pertaining to work on her off time because it interferes with the limited time she has to spend with her family and take care of her motherly responsibilities like providing nutritious meals for her young ones. Soniya simply wants to maintain the health of herself and her family and have fun with the people she loves.
We then decided to take some time to empathize further with Soniya. We chose her as our main persona since a majority of our user survey respondents identified as female and since family nutrition and wellness is oftentimes considered to be Mama’s responsibility in the family.
I created a virtual interview on Maze with 10 participants using 6 set user tasks, each of which testing a different area of our app.
Task 1 - tested our onboarding experience by asking our participants to create an account.
Task 2 - tackled personalization by asking participants to set up their food preferences and plan options.
Task 3 - tested the Foods flow asking our participants to search for Veggies and Fruits using filters safe for 6M+ babies.
Task 4 - tested the Foods flow as well and asked participants to add a particular item to their child’s liked foods.
Task 5 - tested the shopping feature by asking participants what they would do if they wanted to add certain meals to their favorites list as well as to their cart.
